      Hi Pondering Panda

I work for a very well established company (in Management – in the Financial Industry), but have been trying over the last couple of years to get into Government or Municipality (City of Cpt, Stellenbosch Municipality, etc). I probably applied over 40 times over the last 4 years and no luck. My primary reason to be in Government or Municipality is security and self development.

Most of the vacancies’ requirements and experience ( that I applied for) corresponded with what I have. One usually knows when you are a strong match.

I do my own HR and IR (including recruitment), and I believe that one should be fair, meaning that merit and experience counts a lot, irrespective if you have a connecting person at that specific employer.

I have consulted with a couple of clients who more or less my age or bit younger, who was given a job in Government and specific municipalities with very good salaries who admitted that they just had matric with no experience (they will brag) and that a “connection” got them in there. How does one beat that?

      I just need advice please.

      Regards,

      Frustrated O
